BMW on the spit …

Since we still have to weld quite a few supports and other attributes to the bottom of the bodywork, we decided to make a new spit. This time we have thought about it much better so that the whole 1 is much firmer, 2 is on wheels and 3 is demountable and much better to store than our ill-considered first version.

Normally, it should now also be able to run smoothly with little effort. Hopefully we can confirm this shortly 🙂

Now we are going to think about additional supports so that the whole is universally usable, then finish with a color and then we can get back to work.

Infrastructure works

Because of the fact that certain parts have not yet been received, but also because of the lump sum of my loyal help / navigator for this weekend, I decided to carry out some infrastructure works in the R-Box basement. I am fully aware that this news item is of no value to most visitors to our site but it is rather in my own interest to show that I worked my own this weekend 🙂 To be honest, I must confess that my father took care of the paintings otherwise I would never have finished it so quickly, for which I am grateful!

With this so some completely useless photos

Pilot almost loses a piece of his legs …

Together with Luc we spent a full day measuring and fitting to get the pedal box in place. At first it was suggested to have a piece of my legs surgically removed but fortunately I was able to turn the tide and we decided to make 3 round cut-outs in the bulkhead so that it is now possible to move the pedals if the brake cylinders used (compact or the long version) and still keep my full leg length.

The “cage monkey” retires

The M3 body has entered the next phase. The welding work on the cage has been done. Today we have compiled our photo file and everything has been sent to Custom Cages to obtain our certification. The welding samples (on which tensile tests are done) had already been sent a while ago.

1000x thanks to Carl who sometimes had to wrestle himself into very uncomfortable corners to weld everything down to the last detail! Even though some places seemed unreachable at first sight, he always managed to find a creative solution to expertly tie the tubes together.

Exhaust…

For the exhaust we did not dare to take too many risks because with a good design you can gain some power, but the reverse is equally true. Before you know it, you will lose 15-20 hp. Since the courses thermodynamics, physics and mathematics are not so fresh in our memory anymore and especially because we do not have the necessary test facilities, there was only 1 good solution … buy a good exhaust.

Roll cage…

The first item on our shop list, the roll cage, turned out to be the easiest. In any case, we opt for a welded instead of a cage. So there weren’t many alternatives left.

We saw 2 possibilities. Either we let a recognized installer fully assemble the roll cage, or we go for the Custom Cages roll cage. The latter is a bit ikea-style, although the building kits are better documented there.
