Wheelhouse

As mentioned before, we have chosen an electrically assisted steering wheel where we can electronically control the damping and the speed dependence.

The wheelhouse itself is an original unpowered E30 wheelhouse with 34mm displacement per revolution. By applying a 2:1 reduction in the steering column, we arrive at 68mm per revolution.

The steering column is not ready yet so those pictures will follow but here is the wheelhouse.

Ignition coils

After a very long period of sleepless nights we finally selected the coils.

They still have to suffer an endurance test but we finally decided not to go for COP’s for only one reason : reliability.

The space (diameter) is very restricted so it’s hard to find (small) fiitting coils

We studied the Denso’s from the Honda S2000 but they are too weak and because of the restricted space they soon start to warm up.

We decided to go for 4 Okada coils with integrated driver and the primary cables need to be as short as possible.

Diff…ready

Some pictures of the differential with the Drexler LSD and 4.75 pinion/crown gear reduction

We made a hole in the cover to mount a temperature sensor (on the position of the speed sensor)

More pictures to follow when the cover is powder coated.

BMW on the spit …

Since we still have to weld quite a few supports and other attributes to the bottom of the bodywork, we decided to make a new spit. This time we have thought about it much better so that the whole 1 is much firmer, 2 is on wheels and 3 is demountable and much better to store than our ill-considered first version.

Normally, it should now also be able to run smoothly with little effort. Hopefully we can confirm this shortly 🙂

Now we are going to think about additional supports so that the whole is universally usable, then finish with a color and then we can get back to work.
